I'm pretty sure my SG has the original 300k pots so it's on the warmer side. I play in two cover bands that cover everything from Ozzy, GnR, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Pink, Dwight Yoakam, Johnny Cash, SRV, Blondie etc, etc. I purposely put the TonePros on backwards to give me easier access when adjusting bridge saddles to set the intonation. The original had way too much play in the bridge saddles. I have the JB wired to a push pull for a coil tap, but I'm still meh on the tone.
#2009 GIBSON SG PROJECT SERIES#
Been modding parallel / series / single tones a long time with push pull pots and super 5 ways (not possible in 3 way toggles), but may give these a shot in a project. which tones sound the best? I might do triple shots in a project. I know you say your guitar is amazing (it positively looks amazing), but if you could describe the tone, how would you say the 36ths sound - like which bands would you say? And what type of tones do you go for in the triple shots when not normal humbucking - i.e. I might drop my Shaws into the SG for an Angus tone in one. I have a pair of 36ths, but they are double cream and I'm thinking one of my LP's will get them. Doesn't really matter and it would be a PITA to correct at this point. But is your ABR-1 on backwards? Screws should adjust from the neck side. I did 6100s to fret s the rest of the way on my 1963 special, but back in 1990 no one thought of stainless steel. And that ugly front routed control cavity! Seems by 1975 the realized the mistake and went back to the better designs.įor those with really small hands (like Angus) specific models in the time frame may be desired for the narrow width necks. And specifically, Gibson screwed them up with the 0 degree neck angle (which made the fret board a mile off the body) and the reduced beveling (this might have been done in other years), both measures to cut cost by reducing build complexity at the expense of the player. Let's say the dog years were 1972 to 1974. Ok, maybe I was a little harsh on the 1970s to 1980s models.

I LOVE my 2002 LP Standard, but hate the look of the fret board. If it has a 2 ply fret board, I don't care because it looks and feels good. Same neck (both 50s, I'd prefer a 60s), same tone out of the 490T/498R. Compared to my 1998, other than the switch from ABR-1 to Nashville bridge and the colors being different, I could not tell the difference. Since 2012, I picked up another SG, a late 2012 (couldn't pass up the blow-out pricing).
